p>Microsoft Minecraft's owner is investigating reports that the Turkish government is planning to ban the game. The BBC understands.

p>According local media, a research conducted by the Turkish Family and Social Policies Ministry found that the game encouraged violence.

/p>

p>There were conflicting reports about what actions the government was planning to take as a result.

/p>

p>Some claimed it would ask a court for a ban on the game. Others claimed it would demand Microsoft to make modifications.

/p>

p>According to the Haberturk newspaper The ministry's report stated: "Although the game can be seen as encouraging imagination in children through letting them build houses, farmlands and bridges mobs of hostile creatures must be killed in order to defend these structures. The game is built on violence.

/p>

p>'Social isolation'

/p>

p>According to the newspaper, some children might confuse Minecraft with the real world, and believe that torturing animals would not cause pain.

/p>

p>The report said it was based on the personal experience of a nine-year-old and suggested playing Minecraft could lead to "social isolation".

/p>

p>Haberturk said that the department of legal affairs at the ministry was given the task of taking the first steps to ban Minecraft.

/p>

p>According to Fatih Oke (a spokesperson for the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC), a ban is "out of the question".

/p>

p>Christian Science Monitor was told by Mr Oke that there would be no ban.

/p>

p>"The game isn't being banned and will not be banned.

/p>

p>The Family and Social Policy Ministry is not a government department with that sort of authority to ban any product.

/p>

p>"I know that this is what's been reported in the Turkish media However, it's not true.

/p>

p>"The ministry can only work on complaints.

/p>

p>The government would not be able to ban the game unilaterally. the sport, but it would have to convince a court to do so.

p>A spokesman for Mojang who makes Minecraft under the Microsoft umbrella after Microsoft purchased the game for $2.5bn (PS1.68bn) in September 2014, would not speak directly about the reports.

p>He stated that "Minecraft is enjoyed in a variety of ways by players of all ages."

p>"Many enjoy the creative freedom that is offered by Minecraft and its tools. However, some users are more interested by the possibility of exploring a landscape without boundaries and to go on exciting adventures with friends.

p>"We encourage players and urge them to work together to reach their goals, no matter whether they are building or exploring, or simply taking a trip.

/p>

p>"The world of Minecraft can be a risky world, populated by frightening, genderless monsters who are out at night.

/p>

p>"It could be necessary to defend yourself against them in order to survive.

/p>

p>"If people find this level of fantasy conflict a bit disturbing, then we recommend that they use Creative Mode or to allow the Peaceful setting to be used.

/p>

p>"Both of these options will prevent monsters from appearing all over the world."
