p>It's been pretty clear to anyone paying close attention that Minecraft has seen a resurgence lately and now we can quantify that to some degree.

p>This week, Microsoft has told Business Insider that Minecraft has rocketed to 112 million monthly players an increase of 20 million since the last time they announced the figures in October of 2018. It's a decade old and is still relevant.

p>Other than "it's popular and people love it" there are any number of reasons for the current explosion of Minecraft. A new update was released around the ten-year anniversary and included a lot more content. 100 million YouTube? subscribers PewDiePie? is acknowledged for bringing back the game in the "influencer" scene and has a channel that is solely dedicated to Minecraft in the last few months. p>The growth of Minecraft is more impressive when you consider that on the majority of platforms, it isn't actually free, as is Fortnite. Although some may credit Microsoft for incorporating it into the Xbox Game Pass to increase its player base but others might not.

p>Fortnite appears to be aware that Minecraft is attracting players. This is the reason we have seen the birth and commitment to creating Creative Mode in the game. However, Minecraft remains the original game, and it should continue to capitalize on its popularity in the future with releases such as Minecraft Dungeons, which is a combination of the original and Diablo-like dungeons and looting.

p>Overall, the refrain I keep hearing from Minecraft players is that it's a game people like to return to after a break, and in this case, I think there's kind of a snowball effect where so many people came back to it in a group It was like old friend groups could all play at once and have the same enjoyment playing as they may have three to eight years ago.

p>Microsoft's $2.5 billion acquisition of Minecraft was a bit odd at the time, but now they own one of the most played games on the planet. I'm willing to bet that 112 million players per month is more than Fortnite is currently playing, and possibly only is competing with mobile games on the same level. It's incredible.

/p>

p>Expect Minecraft to continue to exist for a long time. It will be relevant in future releases such as Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Earth, and the AR play that will target Pokemon Go in the near future.
